Self Defense Family (End of a Year) - I'm Going Through Some Shit b/w All Fruit Is Ripe

1. I'm Going Through Some Shit
2. All Fruit Is Ripe

Alright so I mentioned this 7" in the previous Self Defense Family post.
First material they recorded under the new moniker and it's a ripper.
Physical copies of this are available on Deathwish.
I have also included the lyrics sheet for this, how handy.
Looking forward to hearing more material from this band of undefined non-permanent members. I've heard that they have just recorded with Sam Pura.
SO enjoy this and look forward to that.

2. Objector
3. Expiration
4. Security Force
5. Up The Ladder

The follow up to the great City Shock LP and also thee final release from Boston's Social Circkle.

Self Defense Family (End of a Year) - I Heard Crime Gets You Off 7"

1. I Heard Crime Gets You Off
2. To Your Scattered Bodies Go

This is the second recording by Self Defense Family (formerly End of a Year), it is also the second single in the subscription series by Run For Cover Records.
I know that they have recorded the 7" titled "I'm Going Through Some Shit" before this, but I don't believe Deathwish has released it yet.
Once that comes out you should check that out too.
Download this if you liked "You Are Beneath Me".

Taking Sides - Smash the Windows to the Dead Hearts

1. Another Show
2. The Outcome
3. Save Your Prayers
4. Clock In / Clock Out
5. Cut To Ribbons
6. Backs To The Wall

Thanks to Brent posting Never Right, it reminded me of this gem.
I played this ep all through grade 12 after some girl from Newcastle sent it to me through MSN! (56k and MSN... those were the days)

The singer is now singing in the band Never Right that Brent posted earlier!

Last Nerve - Self Titled

1. Housed
2. Not The First
3. Break & Take
4. Wasting Time
5. Inside Job
6. Same Mistake
7. Sick To Death
8. All I Do
9. Enough
10. Wasting Time
11. Sweet Revenge
12. Requiem

Last Nerve were a great band from Sydney, Australia who after disbanding had members go on to form No Apologies, Bad Blood and most recently Vigilante.
As far as their sound goes, think Lockin Out stuff and bands inspired by New York.
The first 6 tracks on this were recorded August 2003, whilst the last 6 were done in February and put out as a demo tape. As far as I'm aware this album along with their split with Internal Affairs is all they did.

Iron Mind - Hell Split Wide Open

1. Look Into My Eye
2. Hard Rain
3. Guilt
4. Nail Becomes The Hammer
5. Hounded
6. Steel Trap
7. The Calm And The Storm
8. No More Pain
9. Lion's Den
10. Still No Light (The Iron Mind Pt II)

This is the debut LP from Iron mind who are from Melbourne, Australia.
As I previously stated on the Promo Tracks post, this is very much in the same vein as their work from The Sun Has Set EP.
Ten Hard hitting New York Hardcore influenced jams with tight lyrical and instrumental work.
There are so many good moments on the album that it'd be hard for me to pick just a few parts out as it just kills it overall.
You can pick up physical copies of this LP from here, still have some limited colours left.
The artwork for this album was done by Iron Mind's singer Sam Octigan.

Last Nerve & Internal Affairs - Split 7"

1. Internal Affairs - Enough
2. Internal Affairs - Loyalty Not Royalty
3. Internal Affairs - No Way Out
4. Last Nerve - Broken
5. Last Nerve - Sick To Death
6. Last Nerve - Too Slow

Just got my hands on a copy of this recently, I wasn't happy with the versions I had found so I have done my own (read as: better) rip of it.
This gem came out back in 2004 and has 3 absolute rippers from each band.
Internal Affairs were from Los Angeles and had members from the likes of Terror, Carry On and Piece By Piece.
Last Nerve were a great band from Sydney, Australia who after disbanding had members go on to form No Apologies, Bad Blood and most recently Vigilante.
This 7" is a banger, Internal Affairs kick some serious ass and Last Nerve are in my opinion one of the best hardcore punk bands of Australia.

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

Night Birds - Midnight Movies EP

1. Midnight Movies
2. No Way Home
3. Bad Biology
4. Triple Feature

Night Birds are a Brooklyn band that I first heard on the New York Rules comp tape.
They play a style of fast catchy punk with surf influenced bits, it sounds great.
This EP is their tribute to old horror movies and the drive-ins that used to/still play them.
Hit the replay button on this one as it is over fast and absolutely kills it.

Monday, June 27, 2011

Volcanic Slut - Blasphemaster EP

1. Euphoria
2. Blasphemaster
3. Lunar Activities

This is some evil noise that is made up of one part thrash and another part black metal.
Three bangin' songs from members of Nazi Dust and Divisions.
Highly recommended if you like heavy thrash riffs.

Sabertooth Zombie - Human Performance II

So in great anticipation of the third Human Performance (on Twelve Gauge Records) I have been jamming number I and II, and then realized that I hadn't even posted this on here yet.
This record takes off where the first 7" left you, and it will make you bang your head and grin like a creep.
On this S.T.Z. deliver another two tracks of psychedelic rock thrash jams with punk and hardcore all in the same mixing bowl. As with the first, the second H.P. also has longer track durations - clocking in just under 15minutes.
I was lucky enough to catch them jamming and recording their new material at Panda studios via stream, and I can vouch that the new stuff is out of this world good.
For the mean time I suggest that you play this on repeat and with a high volume.

Purple Mercy - Private Pleasures

1. Purple Mercy
2. Slow Cloud
3. 1:34
4. Off The Pigs
5. Ace Of Space
6. Spider
7. Bring In The New Ear
8. Private Pleasures
9. Devil's Hand Flower

Here I present the new album by California's Purple Mercy - Private Pleasures.
This follows up their debut self titled LP which is a dramatically different listening experience.
The first album was more filled with distortion guitars and pissed dirty vocals, and I liked that a lot.
But I like this just as much, I'd say their sound on this album is 70's psychedelic drone rock.
I'm pretty sure that Twelve Gauge Records (tgrex) will be putting this to vinyl, so look out for it if you are interested in a physical copy of this.
Which you should be.

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Scapegoat - Scapegoat LP (New Link)

1. Jailed
2. Gear
3. Bottom Feeder
4. Indentured
5. Leash
6. Purebred
7. Thoughtless
8. Serve
9. Desolation
10. Hunger
11. Face Down
12. No Release
13. Head Sick
14. Bleach
15. Desensitized
16. Man
17. Moral Panic
18. Coma
19. Cleanse
20. Architecture

The new LP from Boston's Scapegoat.
Note: This is a new download link for the better scene rip, no longer the vinyl rip. No more end of track cuts that will annoy the ears, or any vinyl crackles for that matter.
They sound like a mix between crossed out and at times like neanderthal.

Cabin Fever - Demo + Live Set

1. Can't Breathe
2. Atrophy Of The Life
3. Pure Hate (Poison Idea)
4. Live Set At Midian

Cabin Fever are a three piece punk band from Melbourne, Australia with guy/girl duel vocals.
They list their influences as Poison Idea, Negative Approach, Black Flag, Germs, Articles of Faith and Zero Boys.
On this demo they deliver two tracks of their own, and a cover of a Poison Idea song.
I've also thrown in a recording of a live set I found just for good measure which features some pretty fucking cool covers.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

B-Lines - B-Lines

1. Hasting Strut
2. Wealthy Barber
3. It Rains
4. Psychedelic High School
5. Sunglasses
6. In The Red
7. World War Four
8. Houseplants
9. Tonite

Hello ladies and germs, here is the new LP from Vancouver's B-lines.
Nine tracks of manic/catchy punk that lasts a mere 11 minutes.
The two stand out tracks on this for me are "Psychedelic High School" and "Houseplants" but only by fractions.
This is the sort of album that you can play 3-5 times in a row, because it goes by so god-damn quickly.
That said, this is a thoroughly enjoyable listen that's for sure.
Physical copies of this LP are available from Deranged Records, who have been putting out so many good things lately.

Reproach: Eight Modern Hardcore Bands Cover Negative Approach

1. Dropdead - Whatever I Do
2. Man Is The Bastard - Dead Stop
3. Spazz - Lost Cause
4. Kops For Christ - Why Be Something The You're Not
5. Voorhees - I'll Survive / Tied Down
6. Union of Uranus - Pressure

Haven't been able to post lately due to computer problems, so to make up for it I have this.

Reproach came out in '98, and the cover says it all.
Eight bands covering songs by the great Negative Approach.
This is a vinyl rip so expect some crackles.
Real enjoyable.

Iron Mind - Hell Split Wide Open (promo)

1. Guilt
2. The Calm And The Storm

Here are two tracks from the forthcoming "Hell Splits Wide Open" album from Melbourne's Iron Mind, to be released on Dead Souls records July 1st. This is the follow up to their first EP "The Sun Has Set" which you can download
These two tracks are absolute crackers and are still very much in the vein of their previous efforts which is very New York Hardcore influenced.

side note: not the official album art, that is yet to be released and will be done by Sam Octigan the singer of Iron Mind.

Shoppers - Goodbye to All That

1. I & II
2. III & IV

Shoppers are a band from somewhere, New York.
I bought this tape sometime last year along with a handful of other tapes, but I cant remember where from.
So from the minimal research I just did I am lead to believe this tape sold out.
I have included scans of the cover and of the lyrics sheet.
No track names just a track order.
Female singer, fuzzy recording. Somewhere else called them indie-punk.
Is good.

Badtaste - Demo

1. Fitting In
2. Falling
3. Sick

Here is a 3 track demo from 2 or so years ago by a local band that was by people I knew.
Influenced by the likes of man is the bastard, no comment, dropdead, noothgrush.
If you like industrial sounding hardcore, or bands like cult ritual this should be up your disgusting alley.
I saw this band place once and I'm glad that I did.
Do they still exist? probably not.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

1. Sarah, Send Your Driver

New York Rules is a compilation tape put out this year by Burn Books.
It features 2 songs respectively from 8 bands, some you may know already and others may be new for your dirty ears. I had only heard half of the bands myself, and I am really liking the ones that I hadn't.

Overall this tape has a good mix of sounds that are: rockin', hardcore punk, punk with surf sounding guitars, psychedelic rock and creep punks.
A bit of everything really, which is what a compilation tape should be.

Want to hold something hard in your hand?
Here you go big boy!

Shorebirds 7"

1. D.O.A
2. Tinctures Are 90% Alcohol
3. People I Live With

formed in 2004, featuring Matt Canino (guitar/vocals, ex-Latterman), Chris Bauermeister (bass, ex-Jawbreaker)
I've been jammin' Latterman related bands lately and i'll be sure to upload more soon...

Amigo The Devil - Manimals EP

1. Dahmer Does Hollywood
2. Perfect Wife
3. Alcohol
4. Infamous Butcher
5. Husband

Amigo The Devil was first brought to my attention thanks to SDG, he also posted the demo tracks on here a while back.
Danny Kiranos is the solo artist behind it all who delivers some really great lyrics combined with banjo and or guitar along with the occasional usage of organ/piano on a few tracks which makes for some really dark feelin' storytellin'.
"Dahmer Does Hollywood" and "Perfect Wife" featured on the demo, and "Infamous Butcher" is a re-working of the song "Imachination" - it is vastly different from the original, so both tracks should be taken as stand alone pieces.
The two new tracks on this are great too, and has me looking forward to any further material from Amigo The Devil.

Purchase it here

Written Off - Demo

1. One in the Same
2. Questions
3. Corruption Inc.
4. Iron State of Mind
5. No Return

This demo is tight.
Been jamming this lately and enjoying it.
5 tracks of straight up straight edge jams (not that you need to be edge to listen to it, so don't dismiss this outright), power-chords and all.
You know the drill. And if you don't, you can listen to all the tracks

No Justice - Still Fighting

1. Political Scheme
2. Threw It Away
3. Confused And Betrayed
4. Apart
5. Failed
6. Still Fighting

This pearl of a 7" came out in 2000.
The band was from Washington, D.C.
Some of the live performances recording I have seen blew me away.
The singer jumping up and down, stage diving like 5 times during the start of song, throwing the mic stand and then fucking up the drums.
Guy looked like he was having a shit load of fun.
Listen to this first, or go in search of the footage I just mentioned.
Either way check this band out!

Frodus - Soundlab 1

1. Too Big A Lie
2. Pathless Land
3. Feelgood Song Of The Decade

Frodus is a post-punk DC band that that existed from '93-99, and that resurfaced in one form or another in 2009. This was recorded 2009, released late last year by lovitt records. Has bassist from dillinger escape plan playing on it. You can hear the first 2 tracks here and purchase it on vinyl or download it from $2 (download comes with the extra track). Solid material on this 7", if you like this you should check out their LP "And we washed our weapons in the sea" which is considered by band members to be their best work, good album to drive to.

edit: So I am pretty sure lovitt records got the link removed, the early bird gets the worm. So you will just have to fork out the $2 minimum for the 3 tracks. HARD TIMES COMIN' YOUR WAY.

Their demo is one of my all time favourites, and is my favourite demo from Australia.
Fun Fact: "Flaws And All" features guest vocals from Extortion singer, who did their demo artwork. You can find that demo on here as well.
Jaws really were one of the best hardcore punk bands to come out of this place.
So do yourself a favor and download this bad boy.

This mash-up that Tom Caruana did of Wu and the Beatles is possibly the best thing I've ever listened to.
The samples and beat's used definitely compliment Wu's lyrical abilities.
I can see this being in my car for a very long time and i highly recommend it.

NOFX & The Spits - Split 7"

1. Hold It Back
2. Teenage Existentialist

The Spits:
3. Wait
4. Get Our Kicks

Split 7" between two great bands NOFX and The Spits.
The Spits are a seattle punk band.
The vocals sound like that of a slurring kid with down syndrome who has had a few beers, it sounds great. I highly recommend you look for more of their stuff.
I may post some, but you might as well do it yourself. Show some initiative!

Sunday, January 2, 2011

RVIVR - Derailer 7"

1. Derailer
2. Real Mean

First post in a while, and first post for this year.
I downloaded this sometime mid last year right, I swear I gave it a listen and dismissed it as nothing special. Well I must have mixed them up with some other band because listening to this properly for the first time blew me away.
Anyway, this came out back in 2009 and is the second release by RVIVR.
Side A is catchy as fuck, it has group wah-oh wah oh's and the song is capped off with a brass section which I enjoyed. Side B is an acoustic number with the girl member singing about a past relationship. That might sound like shit if you are some muscle head wall-puncher, but trust me it is quite good.
